Her Anatomy is a collection of painted works on canvas, created over a year by emerging contemporary painter, Bridget Marie.
The works address the healing of mind, body, and spirit through the intelligence of the body. Each work focuses upon a particular organ or bodily system, depicting the system in a state of renewal. The paintings portray definitive moments of metamorphosis along the maiden’s journey; the impact of love, grief, heartache, sexuality, fertility, and the profound embrace of sisterhood. Her Anatomy also explores the spiritual link between the human body and nature.
These works have been created using the artist own ‘body printing‘ process paired with traditional oil and brush techniques. The oil detailing of the works combines symbols, anatomy, and Eastern European folk motifs. The surreal images remain grounded in reality through their use of some recognisable symbols, but are otherwise reflective of intangible energetic and internal spaces. By creating all works with and around the artist’s own body, Her Anatomy challenges objectification of the female form and depicts woman’s innate capability to create magic and transformation through her body.
Held intentionally to align with the International Day of Elimination of Violence Against Women, Her Anatomy endeavours to enthuse and educate audiences on the graceful power of a woman, healing.
